Hemmelsdorfer See
This elongated lake lies on the municipality's edge, and its basin reaches the lowest land point in Germany. On the poster it is the largest single shape and draws the eye.

La mappa
Ratekau Map Poster & Print
Ratekau is a municipality in Ostholstein, north of Lübeck and just inland from the Lübeck Bay coast. It is not one compact town. It is a group of villages spread across gently rolling farmland, each with its own small core and connected by country roads. From above, it looks like a scatter of settlements on a green ground.
The village of Ratekau is known for its Romanesque fieldstone church, one of the old churches of the region's medieval Christianisation. To the north-east, the municipality borders the Hemmelsdorfer See. The bottom of this lake includes the lowest point of land in Germany, well below sea level, even though the lake looks calm and ordinary from above.
A Ratekau map poster shows the typical northern German landscape: irregular field shapes, hedgerows, small woods and the autobahn cutting a straight line toward the coast. The villages appear as small, dense knots. The Hemmelsdorfer See adds a large, clear shape that balances the composition.

Village cluster
Several villages spread out across the municipality, each a compact knot of streets. Together they form a loose constellation instead of one centre, which is typical of rural Holstein.
Autobahn corridor
The motorway from Lübeck toward the Baltic resorts passes through in a long, straight line. It contrasts sharply with the winding country lanes that link the villages.
