Ridgeside is a small city in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and it is entirely enclosed by Chattanooga. It sits on the flank of Missionary Ridge, the long ridge that runs along the eastern side of the city. As a result, its boundaries take in hillside streets rather than a flat grid, which gives the map a softer, more organic character.
From above, the town is a quiet residential pocket. Its streets follow the contours of the ridge, curving gently instead of running straight, and houses sit on generous, wooded lots. The contrast between these winding roads and the more regular Chattanooga neighbourhoods below often makes the change of pattern visible on a map.
Missionary Ridge is also a historic landscape. In November 1863 it was the site of a Civil War battle during the Chattanooga campaign, and monuments along the crest recall it.
