Lake Osisko
The lake sits between the two historic town centres. Its shoreline, parks and paths make it the natural centre of the composition and of daily life in the city.

La mappa
Rouyn-Noranda Map Poster & Print
Rouyn-Noranda grew from two separate towns founded during the copper and gold rush of the 1920s, and they merged in 1986. The map still shows that double origin. Two street grids meet around Lake Osisko, a compact lake at the centre of town. Its shoreline gives the urban area a clear focal point in an otherwise orderly layout.
On the northern side stands the Horne smelter, the industrial complex that gave Noranda its reason to exist. Its large footprint breaks the residential pattern next to the water. Beyond the town, the land opens into boreal forest scattered with lakes of every size, a typical Canadian Shield landscape of irregular water shapes and long roads.
A Rouyn-Noranda map poster shows a northern town defined by mining and water. The grids are regular and practical, the lake is close and round, and the wider frame fills with the shapes of the Abitibi lakes. Printed in black and white, the balance between built area and water is especially clear.

Twin grids
Rouyn and Noranda were planned separately, and their street grids still meet at slightly different angles around the lake. That trace of two towns remains visible from above.
Shield lakes
Past the town edge, dozens of irregular lakes break up the boreal forest. In a wider frame they turn the poster into an almost abstract pattern of water.
