Santa Rosa de Cabal lies in Risaralda, on the western slopes of Colombia's Cordillera Central, a short distance from Pereira. From above, the town is a fairly regular grid of blocks set on sloping ground. Deep ravines and streams cut into the land on either side, and the main road to Pereira and Manizales runs past it. Beyond the edge of town the terrain rises quickly into green uplands.
The town is best known for its hot springs, which lie in a mountain valley above the urban area and draw visitors from all over the country. It is also famous for its chorizo, which is sold along the road and in the plaza. Santa Rosa lies within the coffee region, and its landscape forms part of the wider coffee cultural landscape recognised by UNESCO.
