Edmund Pettus Bridge
The bridge crosses the Alabama River from downtown. On the map it is a short straight line, and one of the most significant places in American civil rights history.

La mappa
Selma Map Poster & Print
Selma sits on the north bank of the Alabama River in the Black Belt of central Alabama. On a map the downtown is a grid set on a bluff above the water, and the river curves broadly past it. Residential streets spread north and west from the centre, while the south side is mainly open floodplain.
The Edmund Pettus Bridge links downtown to the far bank. In March 1965 it was the site of Bloody Sunday, when civil rights marchers were attacked there, and the events that followed led to the Selma to Montgomery marches and the Voting Rights Act.
A Selma map poster shows the city in plain lines: grid, river and the bridge between them. The bridge is a short line on the map, but it carries more meaning than almost anything else on it.

Alabama River bend
The river curves widely past the city, its southern bank low and open. It gives the composition a broad, sweeping lower edge.
Downtown on the bluff
The historic centre is a compact grid on high ground above the river. Its regular blocks contrast with the curving water just below.
