La mappa
Shakhtarske Map Poster & Print
Shakhtarske is a coal-mining town in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, part of the Western Donbas coalfield in eastern Ukraine. It was known until 2024 as Pershotravensk, and its new name, meaning miners' town, reflects the industry it was built around. The town grew in the second half of the twentieth century to house workers for the nearby mines.
From above, the plan is unmistakably Soviet: long, regular blocks of apartment buildings, broad straight streets and generous open spaces between them. On the edges of town the mine sites appear as separate industrial clusters linked by roads and rail sidings, and beyond them lies flat, open farmland typical of the steppe.
A Shakhtarske map poster is a strong keepsake for mining families and for residents who have moved elsewhere, especially in recent years. The clear geometry reads well in Blueprint, which suits a town built by engineers, while Classic black and white keeps the block pattern crisp and graphic.

Mine sites
Coal mines sit just outside the housing districts, visible on the map as separate industrial areas connected by roads and rail lines.
Steppe edges
Beyond the town, open fields stretch far in every direction, giving the compact urban plan a clear boundary against the flat land.
