La mappa
Southwest Waterfront Map Poster & Print
Southwest Waterfront is a neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., running along the Washington Channel between the National Mall and Fort McNair. On a map, the channel is the defining feature: a long, straight stretch of water with piers along one side and the green peninsula of East Potomac Park on the other.
The area was heavily reshaped by urban renewal in the 1950s and 1960s, which replaced much of the old street pattern with modernist housing and superblocks. More recently, The Wharf, a large mixed-use development that opened in 2017, rebuilt the shoreline with promenades, piers and new buildings. The Maine Avenue Fish Market, one of the oldest continuously operating open-air fish markets in the country, remains beside it.
A Southwest Waterfront map poster brings these layers together. The long waterfront, the piers, the larger blocks of the renewal era and the fragments of L'Enfant's diagonal avenues all appear in one frame, with the Potomac and the parkland giving the composition a strong edge.

The Wharf
The redeveloped waterfront adds a dense new edge of piers, promenades and buildings along the channel, visible in fine detail.
Renewal-era blocks
Mid-century redevelopment created large superblocks with interior paths, a distinctive contrast with the classic Washington street grid nearby.
