La mappa
Tanegashima Map Poster & Print
Tanegashima lies south of Kyushu in Kagoshima Prefecture and is one of the larger islands in the Ōsumi group. It is long and narrow, stretching roughly north to south, with a fairly straight eastern coast facing the Pacific and a more varied western shore. Low hills and farmland fill the interior, crossed by a road network that follows the island's length.
The island has a notable place in Japanese history: in 1543 Portuguese traders landed here and introduced firearms to Japan, and early guns became known as tanegashima. Today it is home to the Tanegashima Space Center, the country's largest rocket launch complex, set on the southern coast. The main town, Nishinoomote, is in the north.
A Tanegashima map poster emphasises the island's elongated form. Nishinoomote's streets gather at the northern end, roads run down the spine of the island through fields and villages, and the launch site sits near the southern tip beside the sea. The tall, narrow shape suits a portrait frame particularly well.

Nishinoomote
The island's main town and port lies on the northwest coast. Its denser street grid marks the northern end of the island's long road network.
Long Pacific coast
The eastern shore faces the open Pacific in a long, fairly even line. It contrasts with the more indented western side facing the East China Sea.

Perché Tanegashima
Una mappa che ha un significato
Tanegashima appeals to people who have watched a launch, followed Japan's space programme or grew up on the island. Its long, clean outline also sits well among other maps.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can hold a launch date, a mission name or a hometown. Blueprint suits the space centre and its engineering history, and Noir gives the island a sharp night-sky feel.
