Sea of Galilee
The freshwater lake takes up the whole eastern side of the frame. Its smooth, unbroken surface sets off the tight grain of streets packed along the western shore.

La mappa
Tiberias Map Poster & Print
Tiberias sits on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, well below sea level, with the lake filling one whole side of the map. The shoreline makes a firm edge, and the town rises from it in tiers. Streets follow the contours of the slope instead of forming a grid, so the plan is layered and a little irregular. Newer districts spread along the ridges above.
Herod Antipas founded the city around 20 CE and named it after the Roman emperor Tiberius. It later became a major centre of Jewish learning and is counted among the four holy cities of Judaism. The hot springs just south of the centre have been used since antiquity, and the lake still shapes how the city looks and how it is used.
A Tiberias map poster works because of that contrast between open water and a dense hillside. In black and white, the lake becomes one calm, clean field. The streets gather along its edge and then loosen as they climb. It is a simple composition with a lot of depth, and it suits anyone who has walked the promenade or looked down at the water from the heights.

Terraced hillside
Roads zigzag and curve up the slope behind the old town. Seen from above, they show how the city climbs from the lake toward the higher neighbourhoods on the ridge.
Southern hot springs
South of the centre, the shoreline road runs toward the ancient thermal springs. This quieter stretch of coast frames the lower end of the city.

Perché Tiberias
Una mappa che ha un significato
People hang Tiberias for the lake. The map can recall a pilgrimage, a family home in the Galilee or a summer spent by the water. The shoreline gives the print an easy horizon that holds up at any size, from A3 to 24×36″.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, such as a date or a name. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Sand both suit the pale expanse of the lake.
