La mappa
Tubarão Map Poster & Print
Tubarão lies in southern Santa Catarina, where the Tubarão River leaves the hills and crosses toward the coastal plain and its lagoons. The river runs through the middle of the city, dividing it into two parts linked by bridges, and on a map its curves are the central feature.
The central streets form a fairly regular grid on both banks, with commercial blocks close to the river and residential neighbourhoods spreading outward. Main roads connect the city to the BR-101 highway and to nearby coastal towns such as Laguna. Hills rise on the edges of town, where the streets start to curve.
The river has also shaped the city's history. In 1974 a major flood devastated Tubarão, and the event is still remembered as one of the worst disasters in the state. A Tubarão map poster shows the same river now held between embankments, running through the heart of a city rebuilt around it.

On the outskirts, low hills bend the street pattern, and the valley widens toward the coastal plain.
