This Vincent is in the high desert of northern Los Angeles County, on the southern edge of the Antelope Valley near Palmdale and Acton. From above, it is very different from the dense grids of the city basin. Roads are widely spaced, parcels are large, and much of the land between them is still open desert scrub.
The Antelope Valley Freeway passes through the area. It is the main connection between the valley and Santa Clarita and Los Angeles, and its long curve is the clearest line on the map. Around it, rural roads follow a loose section grid. Dry washes cut across at an angle, running down from the San Gabriel foothills to the south.
A Vincent map poster embraces the sparseness. Most of the sheet is open space, broken by a thin grid, the freeway and the branching lines of the washes. In a minimal style it looks almost like a drawing of the land itself, which is exactly how the high desert feels to people who live there.

Dry drainage channels flow down from the foothills in branching lines. They cross the grid at odd angles and add natural movement to an otherwise straight-edged map.
