La mappa
Yegorlykskaya is a stanitsa in the south of Rostov Oblast, a large Cossack-founded village that serves as the administrative centre of its district. From above it reads as a settlement shaped by open land. Long, straight streets run for kilometres in parallel lines, crossed at regular intervals by shorter lanes. The result is a loose grid of wide blocks, stretched out rather than packed tight.
The stanitsa sits in the basin of the Yegorlyk river system, and a narrow watercourse with its ponds and low banks gives the map one soft, irregular line against all that geometry. Beyond the last houses the streets simply stop, and field boundaries continue the same straight direction toward the horizon. A Yegorlykskaya map poster captures that meeting of village plan and farmland, where the settlement's edge is drawn by agriculture rather than walls or ring roads.
Toward the middle, the blocks grow denser and the road network tightens around the district's administrative and commercial core. Outward, the plots lengthen into deep household gardens, which show up on the map as thin strips behind each row of houses. Seen in black and white, the pattern is quiet and legible, a clear record of how steppe settlements in the Don region were planned and how they grew.
The main streets run straight and far across the stanitsa, giving the map strong directional lines that hold the whole composition together and make the settlement easy to read at a glance.
A small watercourse of the Yegorlyk basin, with its ponds, bends through the edge of the village. It is the one curved, natural line among the regular blocks, and it anchors the layout.
Where the houses end, the street grid gives way to open farmland. Field tracks continue the same straight bearings, so the stanitsa appears to fade into the steppe instead of stopping at a hard border.
