Yigo is the northernmost village on Guam and the largest by land area. Its map is very different from a dense town: settlement is spread along a few main roads that run across a raised limestone plateau, with residential lanes branching off into areas of forest and open land. The overall impression is of lines reaching through green space rather than a tightly packed grid.
A large part of the village is taken up by Andersen Air Force Base, whose runways appear as long, straight strokes on the map. At the northern edge the plateau drops to the sea at Ritidian Point, where a wildlife refuge protects forest, beaches and reef. The coastline here is steep and irregular, framing the village with the open Pacific.
