Winding streets
Roads curve around hills instead of cutting across them. On the poster this gives the town a loose, organic outline without a grid.

La mappa
Yinping Map Poster & Print
Yinping lies in the hilly north-eastern part of Chongqing municipality, on the eastern side of the Sichuan Basin. The land here is anything but flat. On the map, streets follow the contours of hills and valleys, and farmland climbs the slopes in terraces. Roads wind between them instead of running straight.
This part of Chongqing is marked by long, parallel ridges running roughly north-east to south-west, with farmed valleys in between. Towns tend to spread along valley floors or across gentler slopes, and the built-up area often follows a stream or road. Beyond the centre, scattered farmhouses and paths cover the hillsides.
A Yinping map poster shows how the terrain dictates the layout. No grid is imposed on the land. Instead, the streets bend, fork and climb with the ground. The terraces and paths on the hillsides add fine, curving lines. The black-and-white map reads almost like a contour drawing, with the town tucked into its folds.

Terraced slopes
Farmland climbs the hillsides in narrow steps. At poster scale the terraces form fine, curving lines around the built area.
Valley setting
The town sits on lower ground between ridges, so the densest streets are concentrated along the valley floor, framed by sparser hillside paths.
