Ābādeh lies in Fars province in southern Iran, a region where the Zagros ranges run in long, parallel folds from northwest to southeast. From above, the land is a series of ridges and dry basins, and towns settle on the flatter ground between them. The streets form a compact cluster, with roads leading out along the valleys.
In this part of Iran, water has always shaped where settlements grow. Fields and gardens gather close to the built area, and beyond them the ground turns bare and rocky.
