Anār lies in Kerman province in southeastern Iran, on dry high plains between the region's larger cities. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets, surrounded by walled pistachio orchards whose regular plots spread across the desert.
The region is known across Iran for its pistachios, and the land around Anār shows it: fields are laid out in rectangles, separated by irrigation channels and tracks, then give way abruptly to open desert. Main roads cross the plain in long straight lines.
