Anxiang lies on the North China Plain, one of the flattest and most intensively farmed landscapes in the country. Seen from above, the terrain barely registers at all: there are no ridges or valleys to bend the roads, so routes run long and straight, and settlements sit on the land as compact clusters surrounded by fields.
That flatness gives the map a particular kind of order. Field boundaries, irrigation lines and country roads form a patchwork of rectangles, while the town itself shows up as a denser knot where roads meet. The contrast between the fine grain of the built area and the broad geometry of the farmland defines the composition.
