Bilgi is a town in Bagalkot district in northern Karnataka and the headquarters of the taluk of the same name. It sits on the open Deccan plateau, where the land is flat or gently rolling and farmland reaches right up to the edge of town. From above, the town appears as a compact core of streets with roads radiating out to the surrounding villages.
Within the town, the street pattern near the centre is dense and informal, with narrow lanes and irregular blocks. Newer extensions along the main roads are more loosely arranged. In the countryside, field boundaries, tracks and occasional water bodies add shape to an otherwise open landscape when printed in black and white.
