Comal is a town in Pemalang Regency on the north coast of Central Java, near the Java Sea. The land is low and flat, and the map shows a town arranged along the main coastal road that runs across northern Java. A river passes nearby on its way to the sea, and small villages sit among the fields around the town.
This north-coast road, known as the Pantura, has long carried traffic and trade between Java's major cities, and towns like Comal grew along it as market centres. The surrounding land is mostly rice fields, divided by channels and small roads, which gives the area a fine, even texture from above.
