The Tocantins River
The river runs wide along the town's western edge. It forms the state border and gives the map its largest and calmest shape.

Estreito Map Poster & Print
Estreito lies in southwestern Maranhão, on the east bank of the Tocantins River, opposite the state of Tocantins. The town's streets form a grid on the rising ground above the river, and the main highway runs through on its way north and south. On a map the wide river is the dominant element.
The town grew as a crossing point on the Belém–Brasília corridor, with a road bridge linking it to Aguiarnópolis on the western bank. Upstream, the Estreito hydroelectric dam spans the Tocantins. Its reservoir has changed the shape of the river and the land along it.
An Estreito map poster brings together road, river and town in one frame. The river curves broadly past the streets, the bridge draws a thin line across, and the highway cuts through the grid. It is a map about crossings and connections, laid out with the directness of a working town.

The river crossing
A road bridge on the main north–south route spans the river toward Aguiarnópolis, the town's link to the west.
The hydroelectric dam
Upstream, the dam and its reservoir reshape the river, widening the water into a broad basin with a new, irregular shoreline.
