Fléron is a municipality in the province of Liège, a short distance east of the city on the high ground that leads toward the Herve plateau. Like many places in the area, it grew with coal mining and industry, and its layout reflects a landscape of slopes and small valleys rather than a single planned centre.
From above, the streets rarely run straight for long. Roads follow the contours of the land, bending around hillsides and joining where the ground allows. Built-up areas stretch along the main routes toward Liège, while open fields and patches of woodland fill the spaces between them.
