Goudomp sits in the Sédhiou region of southern Senegal, in the green country of the Casamance. From above, the town is a loose cluster of compounds and unpaved lanes that thins out quickly into fields, palms and the water-cut ground of the lowlands. It is the seat of a department of the same name, and the roads leading out of town tie it to the surrounding villages.
The wider landscape does most of the drawing. The Casamance River and its side channels run through this part of the region, and the flat ground around them is patterned with paddies and mangrove edges. On a black-and-white print, those irregular water lines set off the compact town, giving the sheet a quiet, organic feel rather than a rigid grid.
