Tiébo lies in the Diourbel region, in the centre of Senegal's groundnut basin, a wide, flat landscape of sandy soils, farmland and scattered trees. Settlements here usually spread out rather than rise up, and on a map Tiébo appears as a network of sandy lanes and compounds with fields reaching up to its edges.
The region has long been one of Senegal's agricultural heartlands, and roads linking its towns cross the plain in long, direct lines. Around the settlement, the land has few natural barriers, so the street pattern extends freely, broken only by open spaces and plots of cultivated ground.
