Mbaké Map Poster
Mbaké lies in the Diourbel region, in the middle of Senegal's groundnut basin. The land is flat and sandy, with few natural features, so the map is almost entirely made up of streets. The town's older core has irregular lanes. The newer districts are laid out in straight blocks that spread across the plain in every direction.
To the northwest, Mbaké has grown together with Touba, the holy city of the Mouride brotherhood. The two now form a single continuous urban area. On the Mbaké map poster you can see where the older town meets the large, regular expansion around Touba, which is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the country.
The town is closely linked to the Mbacké family, from which Cheikh Amadou Bamba, the founder of the Mouride order, came. Every year the Grand Magal pilgrimage brings very large crowds through the area. The roads leading toward Touba are therefore an important part of the town's layout.

Newer districts are laid out in regular blocks across the flat, sandy land. With no rivers or hills, the street pattern carries the whole composition.
Main roads
Roads radiate from the town toward Touba, Diourbel and the rest of the country. They form long, straight lines across the plain.
