Helmond Map Poster & Print
Helmond lies in the southeast of North Brabant, east of Eindhoven. Its map is organised by a canal, the Zuid-Willemsvaart, which runs straight through the town and gives it a sharp central axis. The older centre sits beside the canal, and later districts spread out on all sides in the planned patterns typical of Dutch urban growth.
At the heart of the town is Kasteel Helmond, a medieval moated castle whose square outline and surrounding water are clearly visible on the map. Close to the centre is also the Speelhuis complex with its cube houses by the architect Piet Blom, built before his better-known cube houses in Rotterdam. Helmond grew as an industrial town, especially in textiles.
