Kempen Map Poster & Print
Kempen is a small town on the Lower Rhine, not far from Krefeld and the Dutch border. Its outline from above is unusually clear: the medieval centre forms a compact oval, and a ring of streets following the line of the former walls and moat encloses it almost completely.
The town is known as the birthplace of Thomas à Kempis, the fifteenth-century author associated with The Imitation of Christ, one of the most widely read Christian devotional books. Parts of the medieval fortifications survive, including the Kuhtor gate and the Burg, the castle standing at the edge of the old town.
A Kempen map poster makes the most of that shape. Inside the ring, narrow lanes lead toward the market square and the main church. Outside it, later residential streets and green spaces spread across the flat Lower Rhine landscape, so the historic core sits at the centre like a clear, framed mark.
