Kirksville is the seat of Adair County in northern Missouri, and from above it shows the classic layout of a Midwestern county town. A courthouse square sits at the centre of a regular street grid, commercial blocks line its sides, and residential streets extend outward in neat rectangles before giving way to farmland and woods.
The town is known as the birthplace of osteopathic medicine: Andrew Taylor Still founded the first school of osteopathy here in 1892, and its successor, A.T. Still University, remains in Kirksville. The town is also home to Truman State University, whose campus forms a large, open block of lawns and buildings on the map.
