Konnūr is a town in the Belagavi district of northern Karnataka, not far from Gokak. The surrounding land is a wide agricultural plain, and a map shows it as a patchwork of field boundaries, cart tracks and scattered hamlets. The built-up area is small and irregular. Its lanes did not follow a planned grid but grew outward from an older core as the town expanded.
Water shapes this part of Karnataka, and the Ghataprabha river system runs through the surrounding district. On a map the river appears as a long, winding line through the fields, with roads converging where they can cross it. Around Konnūr, road and rail links toward Gokak and the wider region lie across the plain as straight strokes. They contrast with the looser, organic pattern of the town itself.
