Koratagere is a town in Tumakuru district of Karnataka, on the Deccan plateau north of Bengaluru. The countryside here is dry and uneven. Farmland, scattered tanks and granite outcrops are typical of this part of southern Karnataka. The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages, and its layout reflects that role.
The streets form a dense core around the market area. Lanes branch out in different directions and follow no strict plan. Roads toward neighbouring towns run out from this core, and houses and shops line them for a short distance before the fields begin. Outside town, the map shows irrigation tanks as irregular pale shapes and rocky high ground where the lines thin out.
