La Roda sits in the province of Albacete, in the middle of the La Mancha plain. The map is shaped by how flat the land is. Around the town, farmland stretches out in large regular plots, and the town itself is a dense, rounded core of streets with a church and plazas at the centre and newer blocks at the edges.
The town is known across Spain for miguelitos, light puff pastries filled with cream that are sold in bakeries all over the country under La Roda's name. It also lies on the historic route between Madrid and the Mediterranean coast, and a modern motorway and railway still pass close to its edge.
