Lissone is part of the continuous urban belt of Brianza, north of Milan in the province of Monza and Brianza. On a map there is barely any open space separating it from its neighbours, and its streets flow into those of Monza, Desio and Vedano al Lambro. The result is a dense, finely grained pattern of blocks, courtyards and small industrial plots.
The town is known across Italy for furniture making, and for decades its workshops and showrooms defined the local economy. That industrial character shows from above in the mix of small factory footprints among residential streets. The railway running north from Milan towards Como passes through town, drawing a firm diagonal line across the grid.
