Lohne is a town in the district of Vechta in Lower Saxony, part of the region known as the Oldenburger Münsterland. The land here is flat and open. From above, the town is a solid, rounded centre surrounded by fields, farmsteads and small woods, with roads leading out in several directions like the spokes of a wheel.
Farming has long shaped the region, along with the industries that grew out of it, and today Lohne is known for manufacturing and food processing. On the map, larger industrial blocks sit at the edges of town. The older core is made of smaller streets that sit close together.
The A1 motorway passes close to the town, drawing a long straight line across the countryside. Smaller roads divide the surrounding land into large, regular plots.
