Maddūr lies in Mandya district in southern Karnataka, on the main road between Bengaluru and Mysuru. The Shimsha River flows close to town, and the surrounding land is irrigated farmland planted with sugarcane, paddy and coconut, giving the map a green, carefully divided countryside around the settlement.
The town grew along the highway and railway, and these parallel routes form its main axis, with streets and markets branching off on either side. Maddūr is known across Karnataka for the Maddur vada, a crisp snack long associated with travellers stopping here on the journey between the two cities.
