Maramba lies in the Tanga region of north-eastern Tanzania, inland from the Indian Ocean coast and not far from the border with Kenya. From above, it appears as a loose settlement with a small centre and houses spreading along roads into the surrounding farmland. The terrain is uneven, with gentle rises and shallow valleys.
This part of Tanga region is agricultural, and the land between settlements is a mosaic of fields, tree cover and scattered homesteads. On a black-and-white map, the roads and footpaths form an irregular net, linking Maramba with nearby villages and with the larger towns towards the coast.
