Meruoca Map Poster & Print
Meruoca is on the Serra da Meruoca, a granite massif rising from the dry backlands of northern Ceará, just above the city of Sobral. The higher ground catches more moisture than the plain around it, so the mountain forms a green, cooler island in otherwise semi-arid country.
The town itself is small and compact. It has a central square, a few principal streets and residential blocks that follow the terrain. Roads leading out of town wind across the upland between farms and patches of forest, then make a steep, zigzagging descent toward the plain.
