Mhaswad lies in the Man taluka of Satara district, in the drier eastern part of the district where the influence of the Western Ghats fades into open plateau. The town sits beside the Man River, and on a map the riverbed forms a clear curve along one side, with the streets of the old centre pressed close together near its bank.
Mhaswad is best known for the temple of Shri Siddhanath, whose annual festival draws large numbers of pilgrims from across the region. The temple precinct sits at the heart of the older town, and many lanes lead toward it.
