Mile 91 is a town in Tonkolili District, in central Sierra Leone. Its name comes from its distance from Freetown along the old colonial railway, which was a common way of naming stops on that line. The railway closed long ago, but the name stayed, and the town is still an important stop on the road network.
On a map Mile 91 is clearly a junction town. It sits where the main highway east from Freetown splits into routes toward Bo in the south and Makeni and the north. Buildings and streets gather along these roads and at the fork itself. Around them are farms, bush and small streams, crossed by thinner tracks leading to surrounding villages.
