Millbrook is a small city in Elmore County, just north of Alabama's capital, Montgomery. On a map its outline is loose and irregular. Subdivisions sit among patches of woodland, and small creeks wind between them. The whole area is tied to the region by a handful of major roads, including the interstate that runs toward Montgomery.
The street pattern is typical of the growing American South. Curving residential lanes end in round turnarounds, and each neighbourhood is a self-contained cluster with one or two entrances. Longer arterial roads run between the clusters, and commercial strips gather along them. From above, the neighbourhoods look like separate islands set in green.
