Neyrīz Map Poster
Neyrīz lies in the east of Fars Province in southern Iran, on the edge of the Zagros Mountains. It is an old settlement with a Friday Mosque that is considered one of the earliest in Iran, parts of which date back to the tenth century. The town grew as an agricultural centre, surrounded by orchards and fields watered from the nearby mountains.
From above, the older part of Neyrīz shows a close network of lanes and courtyard houses around the mosque and bazaar. Newer districts spread outwards along wider avenues. Gardens and orchards surround the town, and to the northwest lies the broad basin of Lake Bakhtegan, which is often dry and shows as a pale expanse on the map.
