Proddatūr is a commercial town in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, on the plains of the Rayalaseema region near the Penna River. Its map shows a compact, dense centre of narrow market streets and closely built blocks, surrounded by newer residential colonies and by roads leading out across farmland toward neighbouring towns and villages.
The town has long been known for trade, particularly in gold, silver and textiles, and its busy markets earned it the nickname Second Bombay. That commercial history is visible in the plan: shopping streets packed with small plots, wholesale areas close to the centre, and a web of lanes that grew organically around them rather than following any single design.
