Quickborn is in the Pinneberg district, just beyond Hamburg's northern edge, and much of its layout reflects that nearness. Residential streets branch off a few main roads, and many end in the loops and cul-de-sacs of post-war housing. A railway line runs north through the town and connects it to the city. On a map, the pattern is tidy, green and mostly low-rise.
To the northwest lies the Himmelmoor, a large raised bog where peat was cut for many decades. It appears on the map as a wide area with very few lines, interrupted only by drainage ditches and paths. This emptiness contrasts with the finely detailed housing next to it and forms the most striking feature of the town's outline.
