Senigallia lies on the Adriatic coast of the Marche, in central Italy. On a map, the coastline runs in a long, almost straight line, bordered by a strip of beach and seafront streets. The river Misa cuts through the town to the sea, and the historic centre sits close to its banks.
The town's broad beach of fine sand is known as the Spiaggia di Velluto, the velvet beach. In the centre, the Rocca Roveresca, a Renaissance fortress, stands near the Foro Annonario, a circular colonnaded market square. Along the Misa, the arcaded Portici Ercolani line the river for a long stretch.
