Singānallūr lies on the eastern side of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, within the spreading urban area of one of south India's major industrial cities. On a map the first thing you notice is water. Singanallur Lake, one of the city's historic tanks, sits as a broad open shape among closely built streets, and it is known locally as an important urban wetland for birds.
