Siwei lies in Hebei Province, west of the provincial capital Shijiazhuang. Here the broad, level North China Plain begins to give way to the Taihang Mountains. From above, the street pattern is mostly regular, with blocks aligned to the compass in the way common across northern China. Farmland lies at the edges, and roads reach toward larger towns.
Moving west across the frame, the land starts to change, with low rises and valleys appearing as the foothills approach. That gradual transition is one of the more interesting features of maps from this area, because the flat, gridded east contrasts with the more irregular west. The town sits between the two.
