Slatina is the seat of Olt County in southern Romania. It sits on the left bank of the Olt River, one of the country's major waterways. The town is built on higher ground above the valley, and on the map its streets end at the edge of a wide river plain. Below, the Olt and its channels run south toward the Danube.
The town is known for its aluminium industry. A large aluminium plant on its outskirts is one of the biggest in the region and shows up on the map as a big block of industrial land. The historic centre has older streets around the main square, while blocks of flats and newer districts spread out on the plateau around it.
A Slatina map poster balances the town and the river valley. The dense streets sit to one side, the Olt valley opens out on the other, and bridges and roads cross between them. This asymmetry gives the map a clear direction and a strong sense of landscape.
