Surian is a town in the north of Fars province in Iran, the administrative centre of Bavanat county. It lies at altitude in a valley bordered by mountain ridges, and the map reflects that setting. The built-up area follows the valley floor, with roads running along its length and the slopes rising on either side, lightly marked by tracks and field boundaries.
Around the town, the land is divided into orchards and cultivated plots, fed by water from the surrounding uplands. These appear on the map as a fine mosaic of irregular fields hugging the valley, green on the ground and drawn as delicate lines in print. A small lake near the town adds a smooth, open shape to the composition.
