Tarāna is a town in the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, on the Malwa plateau in west-central India. The surrounding region is known for its deep black soils and broad, level farmland, which have supported agriculture here for centuries and give the landscape its characteristically open, even appearance.
On a map, the town appears as a compact cluster of narrow, irregular lanes, the kind of dense older core that grew organically rather than to a plan.
