Unchagao lies just beyond the city of Kolhapur in southern Maharashtra, in a region known for fertile black soil and sugarcane. From above, it reads as a place in transition. An older village core of narrow, irregular lanes sits among newer residential colonies, and the edges of the town open into cultivated fields rather than ending in a sharp line.
