Urbandale Map Poster & Print
Urbandale is a suburb on the north-west side of Des Moines, Iowa. Its map combines two very American patterns. The first is the square grid of section-line roads laid out across the prairie long ago. The second is the curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs of later subdivisions filling in the squares between them.
Interstates 35 and 80, which share a route here, cross the eastern part of the city, and their interchanges are some of the largest shapes on the map. Office parks and retail sit along the main arterials. Further west, newer neighbourhoods reach into what was recently farmland, and the edge of the city is still moving.
Urbandale is also home to Living History Farms, an open-air museum of Iowa's agricultural past, which occupies a large area of open land within the city.
