Vellalūr lies on the south-eastern outskirts of Coimbatore in western Tamil Nadu, where the city's growth meets older villages and farmland. On a map, it is a mix of irregular village lanes and newer, more regular residential layouts. Main roads link it to central Coimbatore and to towns further south and east.
Water is a key part of the picture. A large irrigation tank near the town, part of the Noyyal river's system of tanks and channels, appears as a broad pale shape among the streets and fields.
